Picture of March Brown

March Brown

The true March Brown, Rithrogena germanica, is a fly of freestone rivers.

The imitation, with its hare's fur body and subtle shades of brown, is probably even more useful as a general "suggestive" pattern as it resembles different sedges and moths. It works well on either river or lake and used to be a popular salmon fly.
