Picture of Woolly Worm

Woolly Worm

This simple bug-looking fly is a good suggestion of something alive and edible.

It is best fished slowly along the lake bottom either on an intermediate line or a floating line with a long leader, and may be taken for a caddis larva, damsel fly nymphs or leeches. It is a popular fly in the West Country, where it has the reputation for taking large fish. It can be tied in a variety of colours.
